JAILBREAK THE NEW 3 G i PHONE EASY
This is a easy as pie simple step-by-step guide on how to fake activate, jailbreak, install apptapp installer and anySIM 1.1 for your brand spanking new iPhone version 1.1.1…without use of a PC or Mac! JAILBREAK THE NEW iPHONE 3 G RIGHT HERE
This should also work for an updated and re-virginized 1.1.1 phone, although I’m only giving instructions for a store bought, shrink-wrapped iPhone version 1.1.1.
What you need: TO JAILBREAK THE NEW 3G iPHONE CLICK HERE
1. An iPhone firmware version 1.1.1. (go to settings, general, about and check Version)
2. Wireless Internet access (make sure you don’t need a password to get on wifi)
I PHONE 3-G GAMES,THEMES,SOFTWARE,SONGS AND JAILBREAK SIMPLKE EASY SAFE HERE
We need 2 things…
1. access to http://jailbreakme.com (on the iPhone’s safari web browser; accessing their site and downloading their software will get your iPhone fake activated, jailbroken and having the newest installer on your phone). 2. We also need to get anySIM 1.1 on the iPhone to fully unlock the phone for any GSM phone carrier.
Ok….let’s get started…the phone should be fully charged out of the box…we’re gonna make some emergency calls to get Safari on an unactivated phone (don’t worry…you won’t be talking to anyone)
1. dial *#307# and the call button (you’ll hear your phone ringing)
2. while it’s doing that…hit the backspace button on the top right of the screen to erase what you dialled
3. while it’s still ringing, make sure only 0 is pressed, then hit the call button
4. 1 should be calling you now…press answer, then press the hold button in the middle of the screen, then press decline (this will take you to the contact list)
5. On the bottom middle of the screen you’ll see the contacts button with the profile of a man above it…hit that
6. Hit the + sign at the top right of your screen (to add a new contact)
7. Look for Add new URL…hit that then…
8. type in http://jailbreakme.com then hit save, then hit save again on the top right of the screen (this contact will eventually get you access to the web address on Safari)
9. now that you have this web contact saved…tap it…it’ll open up in safari but you won’t be on wifi just yet so you’ll see a message that it can’t access the website…it’ll also look like the website freezes (this is where it gets tricky as you’ll need very quick reflexes…but don’t worry…if you miss it you can try again)
10. hit the home button (the physical button on the bottom middle of your iPhone with the rounded square in it) ***make sure your finger is just over the middle of the phone’s touchscreen***
11. at this point…literally for a split second you’ll see an option for your open wifi location…with your finger already around the middle of the screen…you’ll have to tap your wifi selection as quick as you can (you’ll know you did it right if you see the selection highlight then look for the wavey wireless signal at the top left of the screen)…if you see the wifi signal you’re
12. next…slide on back to the emergency call screen…the phone will freeze up…shut off the phone by holding that very top button on your phone for a few seconds
13. turn the phone back on…still see the wifi signal at the top left of the screen? Great!
14. AppSnapp’s jailbreakme website said you can go back to the contact list by dialing 0, push call, then answer….that didn’t work for me…no worries…I got back to the contact list by repeating the beginning steps 1 through 4.
15. Once you get back to the contacts list…tap on that web address again…now that you are on wifi…the website will be displayed. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and tap on the choice to install their software. (Once you do this…the page will close out automatically…this is good…leave your phone alone…it’s doing its work…after a minute or two…the phone should reset itself…bingo!...Your iPhone is now fake activated and jailbroken with the new version of installer on it!)
16. Now to get anySIM 1.1 on your iPhone…first you’ll need to set your phone so it doesn’t go to sleep (auto-lock). At your home screen…tap the Settings icon, scroll down and tap General, then tap Auto-Lock, then tap Never
17. (make sure you’re still connected to wifi) Press the Home button and tap on the Installer icon.
18. Once in installer…tap on Install near the bottom left of your screen. Now tap All Packages...look for a package called anySIM.
19. Tap on anySIM, then tap Install on the top right of your screen. Once it finishes installing, press your home button. (Your iPhone should reboot…and voila!...you now have the anySIM icon on your phone!)
20. Make sure you have your sim card inserted in your iPhone (if you don’t know how…take a push pin or paper clip, push it in that little hole next to the earphone jack at the top of your iPhone…the sim holder will pop out…insert your sim card with the circuits facing the back of the iPhone…you should see a message saying incorrect sim card)
21. You set your phone to Never Auto-Lock Right? Good…tap on the anySIM icon.
22. Follow the instructions and with only a few more simple taps (no more handholding you through these steps!) and around 5 or so minutes of work done by anySIM…you should be rewarded with a completely sim-unlocked iPhone!
I tried to be as descriptive as possible and if you want your new 3-G iPhone Jailbreakedd you can get it done here.....ENJOY

iPHONE 3G EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
The new iPhone 3G will will be released at 8 a.m. next Friday and you can buy your iPhone 3G here.
Here's the price of owning the NEW 3G for current AT&T subscribers who want the iPhone 3G.
If you're "upgrade eligible" (log into your AT&T account to see if you are), you'll be able to buy the new iPhone for the discounted price of $199 for the 8GB version or $299 for the 16GB model. There is an $18 "upgrade fee."
If you're not eligible for the discount, you'll have to fork over extra for an "early upgrade"$399 for the 8GB iPhone 3G or $499 for the 16GB model.
AT&T also says that a "no-commitment" iPhone 3G will be available soon, at $599 for the 8GB version and or $699 for the 16GB handset. Pricey, but no two-year contract.
Unfortunately, AT&T won't offer the new iPhone on a prepaid basis, at least not at launch.
Some other items: You will have to get your new iPhone activated at the store, and that means a credit check. So bring a photo ID and your Social Security number (especially if you're not yet an AT&T customer). If you want to cut down on the wait, you can go to an AT&T store now and take care of the credit check early.
There have been some rumors that current iPhone users could simply register the IMEI number of their new iPhone with AT&T clerks-meaning they could finish activating their phones at home. It's a nice idea, but so far, there's no indication from AT&T that such a plan exists.
As for the newly detailed rate plans, there aren't any surprises. Each plan comes bundled with unlimited data; $70 a month gets you 450 minutes and 5,000 night/weekend minutes, while a 900-minute plan with unlimited nights/weekends goes for $90. A 1,350-minute plan will cost $110 per month. Family plans are available, and business data plans will cost $45 a month (versus $30 per month for standard data in the bundled plans). Text messages are extra, too. Individuals pay $5 for 200 texts per month, $15 for 1,500 a month, or $20 for unlimited texting. For family plans, you'll pay $30 a month for unlimited messaging.
Will there be a pre-pay version of the 3G iPhone?
Unfortunately, no. AT&T offered the original iPhone through its pre-paid GoPhone plan, but carrier reps have confirmed that there won't (for now, at least) be a GoPhone variety of the iPhone 3G.
Is the camera on the new iPhone gonna be as useless as on the first iPhone? What about a flash?
Apple has confirmed that the camera on the iPhone 3G is the same 2-megapixel model as on the original—and nope, there's still no flash. Personally, I'm fine with the iPhone's camera, and besides, the little flashes on most camera phones are too weak to appreciably improve picture quality. That said, if you hated the iPhone camera before, you'll still hate it on the 3G version.
What about tactile feedback on the touchscreen? Does Apple have any plans to include it in the future?
Still no touch feedback on the iPhone 3G. There were rumors recently that Apple was in talks with Immersion, the company that develops tactile feedback technology for phones and gaming controllers, but either the rumors were false or a deal couldn't be struck before the iPhone 3G announcement. However, since Immersion's technology is software-based (it controls the existing vibration motor in a phone), there's no reason that a future firmware update couldn't enable tactile feedback for the iPhone.
I already have an iPhone; do I have to sign a new contract to get the new one? How much will I have to pay?
Yep, you'll have to sign a new two-year contract with AT&T, even if you're already under contract (the new service agreement will simply supercede your existing one). You'll pay the same price for the iPhone 3G as a new customer would: $199 for the 8GB version, or $299 for the 16GB model.
Do you know if the iPod Touch will have a new, lower price as well?
Not for now, at least. The new iPhone is cheaper because AT&T is subsidizing a substantial portion of the cost. (Why? Because AT&T wants as many new iPhone subscribers—all paying $30 or more a month in data fees—as possible.) The iPod Touch isn't a phone … hence, no carrier, and no subsidies.
Has Apple done anything to allows end users to replace the battery themselves?Nope the iPhone battery is still sealed inside the casing, as it was before, and Apple's shown no indication of changing its mind. Now, there are replacement kits you can buy (which involve prying the iPhone apart with a tiny screwdriver, which I don't recommend), as well as external power packs that'll boost your battery life. Apple also has its iPhone battery replacement program (free in-warranty, $79 plus shipping out-of-warranty).
What about search? Cut? Paste? These are the main reasons Crackberry-heads haven't switched to the iPhone.
No searching, cutting or pasting yet, although I'm guessing that third-party developers will come up with their own solutions down the line.
Will the new iPhone also be available here in the Philippines?
Yes—the iPhone 3G is "coming soon" to the Phillippines, although Apple hasn't given a specific date yet. Here's a complete listing of countries slated to get the iPhone.
Will this new phone work outside the U.S.?
Yes indeed—it will work on any GSM network, including those in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Take heed, however—if you go abroad and start making calls and browsing the Web willy-nilly, you could wind up with an enormous bill (roaming on overseas networks ain't cheap). Get an international calling plan from AT&T before you go (both voice and data plans are available); I also recommend you disable data roaming on the iPhone (go to Settings, General, Network) so you don't unknowingly rack up hefty data charges.
Can you send pictures between iPhones?
The iPhone doesn't support picture mail, a.k.a. MMS (multimedia messaging). Then again, there's nothing stopping you from sending pictures to iPhone-toting pals via the iPhone's email client.
Heard any rumors about the old iPhone getting updates?
The upcoming firmware 2.0 release—which will add Exchange support, the App Store, and other features to the iPhone—will work just fine on the original iPhone. Due in early July, the update will be free for iPhone users; iPod Touch users will have to cough up $9.95.
Any news about when we can use an iPhone with other phone companies besides AT&T? I'm not a big fan of AT&T, and I have family that is committed to the Verizon family plan. How long do we have to wait to use an iPhone with Verizon?
Don't hold your breath. AT&T is believed to have a five-year exclusive on the iPhone, which started last year—so we're probably looking at 2012 before another U.S. carrier gets a crack at the iPhone. Also, keep in mind that the iPhone is based on GSM technology, and Verizon Wireless and Sprint both run CDMA—not GSM—networks. So unless Apple builds a CDMA-based iPhone (and I haven't heard a peep about such a thing happening), getting an iPhone on Verizon seems pretty unlikely.
Is it at all possible to just buy the iPhone 3G without a contract, just an outright phone purchase?
The short answer: No, at least initially. The long answer: With the original iPhone, you were able to buy it at the Apple Store and then activate it—or not—online via iTunes. However, AT&T now says that you must activate your new iPhone in the store (either the Apple Store or an AT&T location), and that means signing a new two-year contract—no exceptions. The new iPhone 3G will will be released at 8 a.m. next Friday and you can buy your iPhone 3G here.

WE BREAK DOWN THE I PHONE 3G'S HIDDEN FEES
The new i Phone 3G will have some hidden fees we have done a little research on the cost's of owning the New i Phone 3G and here's what we come up with. The data plan will be $30 instead of $20, and that no longer includes 200 SMS messages. To add 200 SMS will run you another $5.So to get the same package you have with V1 iPhone will cost $15 more a month. The $30 is just for unlimited email and internet. The voice plan is additional which runs from $39 for 450 to $99 for unlimited.
$39.99 for the smallest of the voice plans, plus $30 for the data plan for a total of $69. That is similar to the current plans which ware $39.99 for the voice, and $20 for the data plan for a total of $59.99.
If you're an "additional line" on a family plan, yes, it would remain $9.99/month for voice and then add $30/month for data, for a total of $39.99/month.
The other prices quoted are for a non-family plan...in other words, yours is the only phone on your plan. Hope this helps you all out, feel free to comment if any of my information is wrong.

UPGRADE TO i PHONE 3G WITHOUT TERMINATING CONTRACT
Current iphone users can upgrade to the i-Phone 3g without terminating their contract.
Those customers who are, say, six months into a two-year contract with AT&T, and who want the new iPhone, but don’t want to sign a new two-year contract may have the option to buy the phone at full price. But what that price will be has not been set yet.

and then choose then from the SummerBoard app!

SIMPLE AND SO EASY IPHONE JAILBREAK
Below are instructions on how to jailbreak using WinPwn 1.0.
1. Download version 1.0 of WinPwn from HERE.
2. Unzip the file and save it to your computer.
3. Open WinPwn on your computer.
4. Once WinPwn was open, select the Browse .ipsw button and find the 1.1.4 restore file on your computer. (If you don’t have it you can download it HERE. You will want to download it and save it to your computer before you select Browse .ipsw)
5. After it has finished importing the firmware, select iPwner and waited for it to do it’s thing. (Note: WinPwn should give you a pop-up telling you to put your iPhone into restore mode…you will want to do that. To put your iPhone into restore mode, just hold the Home button and the On/Off Switch until you get the connect to iTunes symbol.) This will take around two minutes. You will not see anything on your iPhone but, you will see it do a few things in the WinPwn application on your computer.
6. When that is finished, select IPSW Builder. This is where you build the new firmware that iTunes then uses to restore your iPhone.
7. Once you have selected iPSW Builder, you will want to go into the System category on the right and selected Installer, BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH. You can choose other applications that you would like added to your iPhone or even other sources. However, you have a limited amount of space. I personally only recommend adding Installer, BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH.
8. Once you have chosen your applications, you can choose your Boot Logo. You can do this by selecting the Custom Image Tab at the top of WinPwn and then checking the Use Custom Pictures box. You can then either browse their selection of Boot Logos by using the Search Online options or, you can create your own and then choose that file off your computer by using the Boot Logo option. I chose the later. Doug created a Boot Logo for me that has a pink apple and the AppleiPhoneSchool logo at the bottom…it’s really cool!
9. After that, you can choose the Restore Logo you want. I just chose one from their selection using the Search Online option but, you can create your own if you would like. You just add it the same way as the Boot Logo.
10. Now, THIS IS IMPORTANT!! You will want to go into the Advanced tab in WinPwn and set up your iPhone. If you are with AT&T you will want to UNCHECK the Activate iPhone option. The Activate iPhone option is for those of you who would like to fake activate your iPhones. If you are with AT&T and do not need to unlock your iPhone to a different carrier….you should not have any boxes checked in the Advanced tab!
11. Ok, now select Build .ipsw at the bottom. This will create your custom firmware. It will take around five minutes to do this. Once it is finished it will give you a pop-up where you can choose where you would like the new firmware to be saved and rename it. I renamed mine to Brooke-iPhone so that I knew it was my personal custom firmware. It will take around 5-10 to build the new firmware. When it is finished you will get a pop-up saying that the IPSW was successfully created.
12. Once it was finished building the new firmware, you can go into iTunes and selected Restore while holding down the shift key. This allows you to choose the file you would like to restore to. Find the file that you just saved to your computer that you created using WinPwn. Note: You will want to put your iPhone into restore mode before you do this step. To put your iPhone into restore mode, just hold the Home button and the On/Off Switch until you get the connect to iTunes symbol.
13. After iTunes is finished Restoring, you will have Installer on my SpringBoard! YAY! I then went back into iTunes and continued the Restoring process so that I could restore all my emails, SMS, Notes…etc from my last backup. The only sad part is that my iPhone looks so empty! Time to start reinstalling apps!! YAY!
I know this seems like a hard and long process but, the whole thing only takes around fifteen minutes or so and most of that time was just waiting for WinPwn and iTunes to do their thing. It was really very simple!

HOW DO I CHANGE MY IPHONE THEME
Here how to get themes onto your iPhone.
If the new theme is not available through the installer, you will have to add it manually yourself. First, you have to use the installer.app and install OpenSSH on your iPhone.
Then you will need to install WinSCP on your computer. Macs come with openssh . To connect to WinSCP you will need to go into your settings on your iPhone into Wi-fi, click on the little arrow next to the Wi-Fi you are connected to and get the ip address. Now open WinSCP on your computer….the Host Name is your ip address (with the periods) the user name is root and the password is alpine. Don’t worry about the Private key file, you don’t need to put anything there. Hit login.
Now once WinSCP opens, the themes go into the var/root/library/SummerBoard/Themes folder on 1.1.2 and lower and in the var/mobile/library/SummerBoard/Themes folder on 1.1.3 and above. . Once you are in that folder you will see all the themes that are on your iPhone. This is where you want to add your new iphone themes.
Create a folder somewhere on your laptop or your home computer that is the title of the theme you would like to add (example oldskool theme) then inside of the new folder create another folder called Icons (with a capital “I”). Inside the Icons folder put all of the icon images that you would like to have. They must be named the same as the Title of the app, starting with a capital (Example callendar, Customize, SummerBoard, Pics, ext....) You can also add a Dock and Wallpaper to the Chalkwork folder, they also need to be capitalized (do not put them in the Icons folder…just in the main Chalkwork folder). Once you have a folder of the theme with a folder of icons inside it you just drag the whole folder, Chalkwork, into Themes on WinSCP and hit Copy. Once it is done transferring you can go on your iPhone into SummerBoard and select the theme you just added. Note: your iPhone has to be on for the file to transfer!
If you are trying to download a theme that is in a zip file…you will have to open the zip file and then create a folder on your computer that is the same name as the theme you are trying to download. Then copy the Icons folder from the zip file into the folder you created on your computer. This unzips the file so that you can add it to SummerBoard through WinSCP. You can also copy the wallpaper and dock out of the zip file into the file you created if you would like them too.
THE NEW iPHONE 3G WE BREAK IT ALL DOWN

Pricing for the new iPhone 3G will be around $200 for an 8GB model and $300 for a 16GB model.
Some Of The iPhone 3G Features:
So what so cool about the new iPhone 3G? Well for starter's it's the higher speed by which you'll be able to download data, browse the Web and check email. 3G as a data network offers quicker data access than EDGE, which is what the iPhone originally supported. It will now offer quad-band GSM and tri-band HSDPA for voice and data connectivity around the world, automatically switching between 3G, Wi-Fi and EDGE depending upon available data networks. With 3G, you'll also be able to browse the web, get map directions, or check your email while you are on a phone call, all that makes it prety cool.
Business users will now find the iPhone 3G more friendly for activities such as support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync to provide over-the-air push email, contact and calendar syncing as well as remote wipe and Cisco IPsec VPN for encrypted access to corporate networks. It will also work with Apple's new App Store, which lets you download and install native applications in a variety of categories including games, business, news, sports, health, reference and travel. But most of these applications will need to be purchased separately.
Other cool features of note, according to Apple, include black and white body colors, the ability to mass move and delete multiple email messages, search for contacts, access a new scientific calculator, turn on parental control restrictions for specified content, save images directly from a web page or email them to your iPhone and transfer them back to your photo library on your Mac or PC.
Battery life of the iPhone 3G reportedly will offer 10 hours of talk time on 2G networks and about 5 hours using 3G, with up to 5 to 6 hours of web browsing, up to 7hours for video playback and up to 24 hours for audio playback. And, don't worry, it still acts like your favorite iPod portable media player.

FREE I PHONE SOFTWARE I PHONEBROWSER
There are quite a few iPhone softwares which give users access to the iPhone's file system. There are iphone software solutions such as SSH server and WinSCP for the technically inclined but available for free or Megaphone for Mac users and TouchCopy for Windows users which have good user interface but are available for a one-time-fee.
Here's some great news for all you Windows users, as they now use a software called iPhoneBrowser which not only has a good user interface but is also available for free.
What is iPhoneBrowser? It is a Windows based GUI for manipulating files on the iPhone using the Manzana.dll. You can browse through the files on your iPhone, drag and drop stuff onto it just like Explorer, and copy your MP3s and movies back to your hard drive.
The iPhone software also has a auto preview functionality. So if the file you selected is a text-based file, the text of the file will automatically be shown in the lower right preview area.
The iPhoneBrowser software also offers a backup system for keeping your iPhone files safe and the developer hopes to implement the restore functionality soon.
Based on the screenshots, iPhoneBrowser UI seems quite simple and easy to use.
I believe the iPhoneBrowser is a cool software for your iPhone (including jailbroken iPhones) though the developer rightly points out that you won't get very far with it, thanks to "a small area of folders called a sandbox to work with".
You can download iPhoneBrowser from this link.

HOW TO FAKE ACTIVATE JAILBREAK YOUR IPHONE
This is a step-by-step tutorial on how to fake activate, jailbreak, install apptapp installer and anySIM 1.1 for your brand spanking new iPhone version 1.1.1…without use of a PC or Mac!
This should also work for an updated and re-virginized 1.1.1 phone, although I’m only giving instructions for a store bought, shrink-wrapped iPhone version 1.1.1.
What you need:
1. An iPhone firmware version 1.1.1. (go to settings, general, about and check Version)
2. Wireless Internet access (make sure you don’t need a password to get on wifi)
We need 2 things…1. access to http://jailbreakme.com (on the iPhone’s safari web browser; accessing their site and downloading their software will get your iPhone fake activated, jailbroken and having the newest installer on your phone).
1 dial *#307# and the call button (you’ll hear your phone ringing)
2 while it’s doing that…hit the backspace button on the top right of the screen to erase what you dialled
3 while it’s still ringing, make sure only 0 is pressed, then hit the call button
4 1 should be calling you now…press answer, then press the hold button in the middle of the screen, then press decline (this will take you to the contact list)
5 On the bottom middle of the screen you’ll see the contacts button with the profile of a man above it…hit that
6 Hit the + sign at the top right of your screen (to add a new contact)
7 Look for Add new URL…hit that then…
8 type in http://jailbreakme.com then hit save, then hit save again on the top right of the screen (this contact will eventually get you access to the web address on Safari)
9 now that you have this web contact saved…tap it…it’ll open up in safari but you won’t be on wifi just yet so you’ll see a message that it can’t access the website…it’ll also look like the website freezes (this is where it gets tricky as you’ll need very quick reflexes…but don’t worry…if you miss it you can try again)
10 hit the home button (the physical button on the bottom middle of your iPhone with the rounded square in it) ***make sure your finger is just over the middle of the phone’s touchscreen***
11 at this point…literally for a split second you’ll see an option for your open wifi location…with your finger already around the middle of the screen…you’ll have to tap your wifi selection as quick as you can (you’ll know you did it right if you see the selection highlight then look for the wavey wireless signal at the top left of the screen)…if you see the wifi signal you’re
12 next…slide on back to the emergency call screen…the phone will freeze up…shut off the phone by holding that very top button on your phone for a few seconds
13 turn the phone back on…still see the wifi signal at the top left of the screen? Great!
14 AppSnapp’s jailbreakme website said you can go back to the contact list by dialing 0, push call, then answer….that didn’t work for me…no worries…I got back to the contact list by repeating the beginning steps 1 through 4.
15 Once you get back to the contacts list…tap on that web address again…now that you are on wifi…the website will be displayed.
16 Now to get anySIM 1.1 on your iPhone…first you’ll need to set your phone so it doesn’t go to sleep (auto-lock). At your home screen…tap the Settings icon, scroll down and tap General, then tap Auto-Lock, then tap Never
17 (make sure you’re still connected to wifi) Press the Home button and tap on the Installer icon.
18 Once in installer…tap on Install near the bottom left of your screen. Now tap All Packages...look for a package called anySIM.
19 Tap on anySIM, then tap Install on the top right of your screen. Once it finishes installing, press your home button. (Your iPhone should reboot…and voila!...you now have the anySIM icon on your phone!)
20 Make sure you have your sim card inserted in your iPhone (if you don’t know how…take a push pin or paper clip, push it in that little hole next to the earphone jack at the top of your iPhone…the sim holder will pop out…insert your sim card with the circuits facing the back of the iPhone…you should see a message saying incorrect sim card)
21 You set your phone to Never Auto-Lock Right? Good…tap on the anySIM icon.
22 Follow the instructions and with only a few more simple taps (no more handholding you through these steps!) and around 5 or so minutes of work done by any SIM…you should be rewarded with a completely sim-unlocked iPhone!
I tried to be as descriptive as possible so I’m not adding any pictures

Digital Television Converter Box Information
A DTV converter box is an easy-to-install electronic device that hooks up to your analog television set and over-the-air antenna and converts the digital television signal into analog, making it viewable on your analog TV. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) will issue up to two converter box coupons valued at $40 each to households to help defray the cost of the converter box.
When can I get a DTV converter box?
DTV converter boxes that transform digital television signals to analog will be available for purchase at electronics retailers in early 2008. These converter boxes will allow consumers to maintain their free, over-the-air television service even on older analog TVs. Beginning early next year, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) will issue up to two converter box coupons valued at $40 each to households to help defray the cost of the converter box.
Where can I purchase a DTV converter box?
DTV converter boxes that make digital broadcast signals viewable on analog television sets will be available for purchase at electronics retailers in early 2008. Each box is expected to cost between $50 and $70. Households will also be able to request up to two $40 coupons from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) that can be used toward the purchase of converter boxes.
When can I get a coupon for a DTV converter box?
The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) will issue coupons for DTV converter boxes in early 2008. Households will be able to apply for up to two coupons, which must be redeemed within three months of receipt. The coupons cannot be combined to purchase a single converter box, nor can they be used toward the purchase of other products.
How do I sign up for the DTV converter box coupon program?
Between Jan. 1, 2008, and March 31, 2009, all U.S. households will be eligible to request up to two coupons, worth $40 each, to be used toward the purchase of up to two, digital-to-analog converter boxes. For more information about the converter box coupon program, call 1-888-DTV-2009 or visit http://www.ntia.doc.gov/dtvcoupon/.
How do I know if I have an analog or digital television set?
To check whether your TV set can receive over-the-air digital broadcast signals, take a look at your owner's manual or look on the set for an indication that it has a built-in Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) tuner. You can also go to the manufacturer's Web site and check the capabilities of the set by manufacturer model number.
Will I be able to continue to use my existing VCR with a DTV converter box for timed recordings?
Yes, but after the digital transition, you won't be be able to pick up over-the-air programs for recording from the tuner in the VCR, so the input to the VCR must be connected to the output of the DTV converter box. The tuner in the DTV converter box will need to be set to the desired channel to be recorded prior to the start of each recording period programmed into the VCR.

How to use the iPhone without a contract
How to unlock an iPhone for use as a Widescreen iPod + Wifi -- without a contract, and a $49.98 one time fee.
The first step involves faking bad credit by typing in "999-99-9999" as your Social Security number during activation to trigger the GoPhone/"Pick Your Plan" option which allows for contractless pre-pay plans. The cheapest version of "Pick Your Plan" is $49.98 (rate plans).
Then, according to TUAW simply taking out your SIM card allows you iPhone to continue to function as an iPod + Wifi device without any further hassle.
Removed SIM entirely. It complains but works at 6G WiFi iPod. Tried placing call. "No SIM card installed". Failed. Connected to iTunes. Synced without any problems I could detect. WiFi fine.
Presumably, you could then cancel your $49.98 month-to-month and use the iPhone as a Widescreen iPod + Wifi device
How to add custom ringtones / system sounds to the iPhone
Requirements:
- ziel's iPhoneInterface & jailbreak apps for Windows
- The iPhone software update package
- iTunesMobileDevice.dll
- A custom ringer that you would like to install
Now the package location varies so there's really only one reliable way to get it. Plug in your iPhone, and head into iTunes. Click the "Sync" button first (to be safe) and wait for the sync to finish. Then hit the Restore button. Confirm that you do want to restore (even though you don't) by hitting Restore.
Click through the dialogs but when the update starts downloading, unplug your iPhone. This will make sure your iPhone won't get overwritten.
Wait for the package to finish downloading (you can track it in the Downloads area of iTunes).
Now go to your Start Menu, click Run, and copy this into the Run box:
%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
And hit OK. A file window should pop up containing one file that starts with iPhone. Check whether it ends with ".ipsw" - if it doesn't, you'll have to turn on file extension display by going to the Tools menu -> Folder Options -> View tab -> Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types". Right-click the iPhone update file and choose "Rename". Give it the name "iPhone.zip" and press Enter, and confirm that you want to change the extension.
Now double-click the file to open its contents. Extract them all to some folder, say "c:\phonedmg". The rest of this article assumes you extracted the files there.
iTunesMobileDevice.dll
This one's easy. Start, run:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin
Copy iTunesMobileDevice.dll into c:\phonedmg .
ziel's Jailbreak and iPhoneInterface software
Download the software from directly from ziel's website. Extract the files to c:\phonedmg as well. Move the files from the "win" directory into c:\phonedmg - the "osx" files won't be used here.
A custom ringer
You can use .m4a or .mp3 as your ringtones, but for some reason they must be made through Quicktime. Fortunately iTunes lets you convert any file to .m4a by selecting "Convert to AAC" from its entry in your music library. Then choose "Show in Windows Explorer" once it's been converted. Put these files in c:\phonedmg as well.
Running Jailbreak
Now that you've got everything you need, it's time to get started!
Make sure to close iTunes now. You don't want iTunes' helpful interface interfering with this delicate operation.
Hit your Start menu, choose Run, and type cmd .
Hit OK and a command prompt should show up. Type these commands:
c:
cd \phonedmg
jailbreak
Now Jailbreak should be running. Plug in your iPhone if it wasn't plugged in already.
Jailbreak should tell you that it's sending files to the iPhone, then ask you to hold the POWER and HOME buttons. Do that, but do it in this fashion:
- Press and hold the Power button until your iPhone says "Slide to power off".
- Slide the red slider and let the phone shut down.
- Plug the dock cable back in.
- If the iPhone doesn't turn on by itself, press and release the power button.
- When the Apple logo appears, press and hold both the Power and Home buttons.
- The phone will power off (keep holding the buttons!) and restart.
- Soon it will display a yellow triangle and the message "Connect to iTunes".
At this point Jailbreak will begin performing mysterious operations on your phone. Wait for it to complete and don't touch anything.
You should receive this message at the end:
Enjoy your newfound freedom. Thank the devs at #iphone next time you see them for making this all possible.p.s. Like most other useful tools, this one may be dangerous if used carelessly

Tricking iTunes for free ringtones (Windows)
First off, you need to go into your iTunes preferences and make sure that you have the AAC converter turned on. To check, go into the iTunes preferences and click on the 'Advanced' tab. Click the 'Importing' tab and under 'Import Using' should say 'AAC Encoder'.
It's all set right? Sweet! Now pick a song that you want to get a 30 second clip from. Right click on the song and select 'Get Info' from the menu.
Just for simplicity sake, lets just say that you want the first 30 seconds of the song. You will click on the 'Options' tab and change the Start and Stop time. Click the checkboxes and change the Stop time to 0:30. Feel free to use any 30 second segment that you wish. Just note the start time and add 30 seconds to it for the stop time.
The hard part is done! Now just exit out of the 'Get Info' screen and right click on the song that you just modified and select 'Convert Selection to AAC' from the menu. Let iTunes work it's magic.
You will get a second song in your iTunes library ... but it will only be 30 seconds long! You can right click and select 'Get Info' and change some tags to make it easier to find in your iTunes library. I like to change the artist and genre to 'Ringtones' so that I know right where to find it.
Exit iTunes. Locate the file in your iTunes music directory and rename the .m4a extension to .m4r.
Once you have renamed the file, just double click on it so that it adds itself to your iTunes library again ... but this time as a ringtone!! iTunes will launch, and the ringtone you just created will appear in the Ringtones list. If for some reason you are having an issue with this the first time, you might want to check in your iTunes preferences and see if you have the “Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized” option checked. Having that checked will automatically create a ringtone folder for you.
An alternative to the double click method is to simply open iTunes, open your ringtones library and then drag the .m4r file from windows explorer or finder (on mac) into the ringtone library. Either method should work.
Make sure "Manually manage music and video" is unchecked if you are in the new itunes.
Works in my jailbroken 1.1.3.
I PHONE PROBLEMS JAILBREAK TUTORIALS
I just bought an iphone unlocked off the classified ads, and I want to jailbreak it so I can run cool applications like the nes roms and the video wallpaper. I was under the impression that if the phone is jailbreaked you can see it in my computer, however I cannot so I assume its not already jailbreaked? The guy I bought it from said never update or it wont work anymore, is this true? My version is 1.1.3 and its unlocked for rogers in canada. Is it safe to jailbreak it and if I do will I have to unlock it again or something? And if I screw it all up can I go back to my old settings where the phone actually still worked?
If its unlocked its already jailbroken...most likely...use the new winpwn http://www.winpwn.com/index.php/Main_Page if your on windows or the new pwnage http://wikee.iphwn.org/news:pwnage1dot1_announcement if your on apple and you will b okay

ONE CLICK I PHONE JAILBREAK
the Jailbreak Dev Team has released a one-click solution that you simply install through Installer.app. To use it, you need to have a jailbroken 1.1.2 iPhone , then it's simply a matter of tapping the install package and waiting about 20 minutes for the entire process to complete. Before installing, make sure you've set your Auto-Lock feature to Never, are connected to a Wi-Fi network (it downloads a 200MB image), and you've got at least 300MB of free space on your iPhone. Finally, check to make sure you've got the latest version of Installer.app before proceeding.
I haven't tried this method yet, but it should be scads easier than the previously posted method. As always, remember that things can go wrong, so proceed with caution.

HOW TO DUAL BOOT iPHONE
The dev team has been using dual-booting to jailbreak the iPhone for several months now, however now that several more advanced techniques have been developed (many of which are still private), I thought it apropos to release this cool hack for those who would like to dual boot multiple versions of the iPhone software (or other OS’s) from their handset. It’s a neat little hack that I think might be useful for developers playing with 1.2, which appears to disable the radio (phone calls).
Cool hack indeed. It’s somewhat of a complex process requiring technical know-how. If you’re unfamiliar or uncomfortable with command line, don’t bother attempting this.

UNLOCKING iPHONES HERES WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
There are two types of unlocking: "Firmware-patch" and "Direct unlock"
Firmware patch is simply patching the firmware in order to bypass the unlock. Phone is still "locked", firmware is just tricked into believing it's not. An example would be when phone startsup and runs code "if(phoneIsLocked == false) doStartphone();" - a patch would simply change "false" to "true", causing it to run doStatphone() even when it's locked. If firmware is upgraded/restored, this patch will of course be removed and were back to start again. This type is in the industry considered as a semi-unlock, and only accepted as a last resort if no other way is found (usually, it's just a temporary solution)
Direct-unlock is the real way of unlocking phones. Usually it involves just rebuilding the entire lockdata in EEPROM with "blank" unlocked data. Or the safest way is to get the phone itself to clear the data by making it unlock itself - which could be achieved by for example finding the unlock codes and feed it with them. This would leave absolutely no trace of "hacking" - it will be 100% correctly done, as intended by the manufacturer.
(SIM-cloning/Turbosim is not mentioned, because that's not considered unlocking.)
When a phone is unlocked (in a proper way), it will always be unlocked. Firmware upgrades never touches EEPROM, including lock data.
Here are my thought's on how iphone unlocking works - of course, it's just my thoughts based on my experience with other phones, and I may very well be wrong.
IPFS unlock solution is permanent, and will handle all future updates Yes, i'm fairly sure that a phone unlocked with IPFS is a proper unlock (not firmware patch), making it permanent. But of course, unlike other's, iphone needs activation and IPFS therefore completely dependent on activation, which is depending on jailbreak. But when it comes to the operator lock itself, IPFS's permanently unlocks it.
I'm not sure exactly how IPFS does unlock it, but i'm feeling very sure it's one of these:
1. IPFS reads data from the baseband/EEPROM, and rebuilds the lock area in EEPROM with proper data - without any lock. This is exactly the same done on almost all other phones.
2. IPFS patches the baseband, but only as a temporary step in order to achive the above. When it's finished, it doesn't matter if the patch is removed (bb upgraded), because phone is already unlocked.
AnySIM and the other solutions are fimware patch solutions and will never survive baseband flashing/upgrade. Unlike IPFS (if IPFS also patches firmware), AnySIM patches firmware in order to bypass the lock, not in order to unlock it - or at least it's not unlocking it properly. The fact that anysim unlocked phones are bricked after upgrading, must be caused by changes the anySIM solution does to EEPROM, which is not properly done, and makes it "corrupted" as seen from the new firmware.
In my opinion there's no reason to be so negative about IPFS. They did the real unlock and so far noone have been able to recreate their solution. So don't expect a free real solution for 1.1.1 appearing very soon either. A free patch-unlock though is probably already possible now that they have decrypted the ramdisk, i will try that tomorrow. Of course iphone dev team are doing the most important work, and let's hope they soon will be able to work out a direct unlock solution as well.

UNLOCK YOUR iPHONE FREE AND EASY
Now you can unlock your brand new iPhone very easy. I set up an Installer script to make it even easier. In short terms, downgrade your phone to 1.1.1 and jailbreak as described below. After you have access to the phone, open Installer and goto Unlocking Tools and Install 1.1.2/1.1.3 OTB Unlocker. When it completes, you must upgrade to 1.1.2.
Bypass activation and prepare phone for software installation
1.Make sure you have a SIM-card with PIN turned off, and power on your phone (the supplied AT&T card works fine).
2.On the activation screen, slide for emergency and dial: *#301# to make the phone call itself. (If the incoming call dialog quickly disappears but it keeps ringing, just dial 0 (remove *#301# first), and it will call itself)
3.Answer the call, and tap on Hold
4.Phone will call it self again, tap Decline. You will now be returned to the normal dialer.
5.Tap on contacts, and tap the + icon to add a new. The only info you are going to add to this contact are two URL's. To add a URL, tap Add new URL. The first URL is prefs followed by a colon: prefs: and the second is i.unlock.no. Tap Save.
6.Your contact now has two "web pages" - tap on the first one (prefs:). This will take you to the settings dialog. The reason you want this, is because you need to connect to a Wi-Fi network, so tap on Wi-Fi, and get connected to a network, and make sure the icon on top of the screen is indicating that you are connected. While you are in the settings dialog, you should also set: General → Auto-Lock → Never.
7.Now, press the home button, and again, slide for emergency dial 0, Answer the call, Hold and Decline the new call so that you get to the contacts. Tap on your contact (No Name), and this time tap on the other home page, i.unlock.no
8.Safari will launch and show you a webpage. Tap on Tap here to jailbreak your iPhone
9.Phone will return to activation screen and after a few seconds the phone should restart.
10.If the phone does not restart after waiting a full minute, please make sure that you have your phone connected to the computer and try again.
11.When the phone starts again, it should no longer say slide for emergency, but rather Slide to unlock It means it was successfull! Activation is now bypassed, and phone prepared for software installation! (If you are going to use an AT&T SIM, you won't need to do the next step.)
Unlock the SIM-lock on jailbroken 1.1.1
1.Open installer, and install the update if prompted.
2.Go to sources and tap Edit and Add
3.Add this URL: http://i.unlock.no
4.Tap Done and then Refresh
5.Go to Install (at bottom) and scroll down to the Unlocking Tools category and install AnySIM
6.When installed you can press the home button, and you will find a new AnySIM icon on your home screen. Launch it and follow the instructions.
7.The unlocking process will take about 5-10 minutes, in the end it should say it was successful!
8.To clean up your phone, launch Installer and uninstall AnySIM. Then go to Settings → General → Auto-Lock and set it to a prefered value.
Congratulations, you are done!

1. Sony Ericsson K790This feature-rich camera phone has a lot to offer: 3.2-megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth, HSCSD high speed data and an above average battery life. Add to this enthusiastic user reviews and you are in for a phone you will love.
2. Samsung m610
The Samsung m610 has it right on most things: 2-megapixel camera, full-duplex speakerphone, speaker-independent voice recognition and a nice form factor. Downsides are: only average battery life and some complain about the output volume's weakness -- a common problem in today's tiny cell phones.
3. LG enV
One of the best Best cell Phones In All Categories On The Market Now for signal reception, according to users. Other features are also good, however, some reviewers mention a lower than average earset volume. In other words, you won't hear it very loud, but at least you will hear it where other phones would have let you down.
4. Sanyo M1
Good sound quality, powerful volume, great display meant for streaming TV and a flawless 2-megapixel camera make the Sanyo M1 one of the year 2007's best Best cell Phones In All Categories On The Market Now phones.
5. Sanyo Katana
Trumpeted as a good signal strength phone with a great display and fair features all around, the Sanyo Katana is one of our users' favorites. With a weakness, maybe, on the ringtone volume side, so you might want to use the vibration feature if you work in noisy environments.
