To make your own iPhone ap you will need an Intel-based Mac computer with Mac OS X 10.5.5 Leopard for developing your iPhone app, as well as a couple of test devices aka iPhone and an iPod Touch. Plus, you must be a registered member of the Apple iPhone Developer Program, which costs $99 for the basic edition.

Next Tuesday, Apple will introduce the next version of the iPhone operating system, along with new tools for building iPhone applications downloaded from the company’s App Store, according to Apple.
Microsoft also has released tools to enable developers to build applications for the Windows Marketplace for Mobile, which will be offered on Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.5 software and allow developers to sell thousands of applications to users of Windows Mobile devices. Microsoft just said it will pay developers 70% of sales for there new iPhone applications they develop and sell on the Windows Mobile application marketplace. Sounds like a good reason to learn how to make an i Phone app to me.
